That’s right, my dear little children, it's wool. We get that wool from a soft and warm animal - sheep. Its fleece is so soft and warm like a story written by Ivo Andrić in 1953. That story is entitled “Aska and the Wolf”. This is a story about violence and how to stop it. Ivo Andrić witnessed major violence both in World War I and World War II and hence he wrote and tried to change people because he believed in good.

“The puppet is a breathing of material in space.” Tatjana Piper Stanković, Director

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

OK children, what is this?

That’s right, my dear little children, it's wool. We get that wool from a soft and warm animal - sheep. Its fleece is so soft and warm like a story written by Ivo Andrić in 1953. That story is entitled “Aska and the Wolf”. This is a story about violence and how to stop it. Ivo Andrić witnessed major violence both in World War I and World War II and hence he wrote and tried to change people because he believed in good.

Aska: I want to be a ballerina.

Wolf: I just wanted to see a whole miracle till the end.

Teacher: And he had no idea that art was endless!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND HIS WORK

Ivo Andrić was a Yugoslav writer. He was born in Dolac near Travnik in 1892. His most famous novel is "The Bridge on the Drina" for which he won the 1961 Nobel Prize in Literature because of the epic power of shaping the themes and depicting human destinies throughout the history of his country. His other famous works are “Ex Ponto”, “The Journey of Alija Đerzelez”, “Bosnian Chronicle”, “The Woman from Sarajevo”, “The Story of the Vizier’s Elephant”, “The Damned Yard” and many others. The writer's last wish was that after his death the annual Andrić Award was granted for a story or collection of short stories, and this has been done since 1975. A year after Andrić's death, in 1976 in Belgrade, the Ivo Andrić Foundation was established.  The importance of Ivo Andrić for our literature is reflected in the fact that in his stories he was trying to discover how the historical circumstances exposed the people from our regions in challenging and often difficult situations, while advocating pacifism, just like in the story "Aska and the Wolf”.

“We do not know how much strength and what possibilities lie hidden inside every living creature and do not sense what we are able of doing. It is revealed only in big and exceptional moments like this. Aska plays the game for her already lost life!“
